February Reading Wrap Up!

Posted on March 7, 2025 by April

I have had a really great month of reading. Lots of new authors I have never read before, and an even mix of self-published/ traditionally published books. Here’s a look to my favourites and what’s upcoming in March!

What were my highlights?

So many this month. All Systems Red was a fantastic intro to the sci-fi world. Very rich and funny, also a short read for those that might want to see what the fuss is all about. It’s fuss is well deserved, I will be reading the rest of the novellas.

Strange Pictures was another surprise for me. I received this as a gift and was taken in by the first chapter. There are 3 separate mysteries at play and the reader is tasked with trying to put the pieces together. I really enjoyed it. Quick read but was filled with intrigue and suspense. My heart was very sad by the end.

Sea of Souls was brilliant! As a Scot I find it hard to read books based on my country’s heritage and folklore, but she did fantastic. It was relatable, a little bit crazy at times and very wearing on my heart. Book two is out today and I’m not sure I’m ready for any more pain (I’ll do it anyway and will definitely be checking it out soon!).

Lastly, Sistah Samurai.. what this small book did to me.. it packed a punch. Brilliant action, humour and relatability, with a deeper meaning running underneath it all. Fantastic writing to make me feel so much with so little pages. I have since added this author’s other work to my TBR, it was great!

My favourite read this month?

Daughter of the Empire was the best book I read this month. for the way it made me feel, the beautiful writing and phenomenal storytelling. This book was a surprise and it started the trilogy off on a strong footing. I will absolutely be finishing this series! If you want a strong female main character that uses her wit and intelligence over sword art and magic, then I think you will eat this book up. I have a full spoiler free thoughts here if you want to check it out!

TBR Update

I went through a lot of my TBR this month and I also did a large unhaul of books I don’t see myself picking up any longer. That leaves me with 118 physical books left to read. Far more manageable!

The other side is that I’ve gotten Kindle Unlimited back which is where I’ve been reading most of my indie books lately. Which has been great to be able to support self-published authors and find some new favourite books, which I certainly have. How do others feel about KU? I know there is a wider boycott at play but I can’t help but think it will impact our smaller authors the most and that doesn’t sit right with me either.

Upcoming..

March is an exciting month. My priority is to read The Dark Mirror, I have been putting it off as I have no idea how I’ll be able to wait so long for book 6 (Take your time Samantha, dont mind me).

I also want to dive into The Broken Bindings fantasy sub pick which starts with The Mask of Mirrors. Stunning edition and book 2 should be here in a few weeks so I’d love to dive into those.

Otherwise I have a list of other indie fantasy books I want to read and I have a few more reviews to catch up on!
