Reading Goals for 2025

Posted on December 31, 2024 by April

Happy New Year!

Another year has come and gone and that means another year of reading. New book releases, discovering old series and maybe actually finishing some? (hello, Malazan..) Whatever it may be, I like to set myself some goals for the year to come.

Goal 1 – Starting off strong with finishing a series I’ve already started. I’d like this to be Mark Lawrence’s Library trilogy, with the final book releasing in April.

Goal 2 – Primarily read the books on my ‘to be read’ pile. These are books I already own, awaiting my time and attention. I have some great books on my shelf; Mistborn book 1-3, a lot of indie fantasy books I’m excited to dive into, as well as a few from genres I don’t tend to gravitate towards.

Goal 3 – Try something new! I tend to stay in my comfort zone but I realise I’m missing out on some great stories. Not to mention all the authors I’m not giving a chance. That’s going to change this year and through my tbr pile, and borrowing from friends and the library, I’m going to try out some new authors.

Goal 4 – Do not buy new books! I do have a few pre-orders in from some of my favourite authors. Aside from those, I’m not buying anything. I want to be more conscious of my spending in 2025, and have cancelled all but one of my book subscription boxes (and that one is going very soon too!). I do tend to sell on books that I didn’t enjoy, or won’t read again, so perhaps I can use any money from selling books I currently own, to buy something new, but otherwise I have a clear savings goal and I want to stay in track.

Goal 5 – I want to participate in a reading challenge. Perhaps something that will help me select from my tbr pile. When there are so many books to read I can get overwhelmed at times, so hopefully something fun like a challenge will help me select what books to read.

Those are my goals for 2025 and I’m going to keep a track of these through my blog posts throughout the year.

Do you have any reading goals for 2025?
